Cuba
2007
I'd
said that I wanted to go to Cuba before Fidel died - and so as I
anticipated that his years were coming to an end, I thought I had
better do it now. In saying that, I'd not comprehended what it meant
to go to a socialist country - I mean, I had been to China, the
last bastion of communism - how different could Cuba be?

Peru
2007
A
return to the country that I had lived in for years - more than
a holiday it was a return home... To the right, a picture of Ariana
reaching the highest point (4600 metres) on the Ancascocha trek.

Indonesia
2007
Australia's
nearest neighbour and yet a world away... Always a little discouraged
by the Bali image I'd put off an Indonesia - only to discover that
closeby was a wonderful archipelego of tropical islands, each with
a different culture and so much to explore... I took classes in
the unique Balinese instrument Gamelan (right)

Myanmar
(Burma)
Without a doubt Burma
is our favourite country in the world. This seems rather ironic
as the democracy leader Aung San Su Kyi advises tourists not to
visit. Yet the people are wonderfully generous and unspoiled and
following our first trip in 2004, we returned 14 months later in
2006.
Judy
is pictured here in little visited Rakhaine province where our ferry
between Sittwe and Thandwe made a "tea stop" and women
and children followed us curiously in the street. Enter

Peru
2005
For
two years Ariana shared a home with about 45 people and 13 children
in a communal house in the historic suburb of San Pedro, Cusco.
She shared with this family many birthdays, religious holidays and
even the birth of Eddy (small boy on right of picture.) For
anecdotes and stories from Peru

Sapo
champs - dos gringas and the italian stallion
Thomas,
Honni and I won the Sumaq Misky Sapo competition... What is sapo
you say? Its the game of the incas and involves throwing coins into
a frog's (sapo) mouth... Its much harder that it sounds and our
win involved literally weeks of training before hand. For the 2005

India
2004
They
say that you either love it or hate it... India was a big challenge
for us, a trio of women. It's like no other place on earth, its
a complete assault on the senses, 24 hours a day. Ruins, palaces,
exotic culture and spicy foods... India has it all...
We
shared these travels with fellow Walpolian Kristel and celebrated
her 21st birthday in fine style in Khajuraho.
